Origins: Basenjis are a large spitz
dog breed that originated in the mountainous
northern regions of Japan in the 1600's.
Description: The Basenji is a powerful,
medium size, muscular dog with a broad
head and curled tail. Basenjis have erect
ears and a "mask" of darker
fur on their face.
Size: Basenjis weigh between 80
- 145 lbs,, they stand 22.75 to 27.5 inches
tall.

Coat: Basenjis have thick double
coats, made of stiff, short-hair that
is red, fawn, sesame, brindle, pure white,
all with whitish coat on the sides of
the muzzle, on the cheeks, on the underside
of jaw, neck, chest, body and tail and
on the inside of the legs.
Disposition: Basenjis were historically
bred as both a hunting and a fighting
dog, they are naturally aggressive and
very dominant animals. Basenjis are intelligent
and loyal dogs, they are loving, devoted
and gentle towards their master and their
families. The Basenji is a good guard dog
and is weary and suspicious of any person
or animal that it doesn't know.

Litter Size: Basenjis give birth
to litters of 5-7 puppies.
Behavior: Basenjis are strong-willed,
and confident dogs, they require moderate
daily exercise and plenty of mental stimuli
to avoid bordom.
Traits: Basenjis are loyal, brave,
and protective.

Life Span: Basenji dogs typically
live 9 - 11 years.
