Origins: Kookierhondje were initially
bred to hunt small game. The breed is
said to have foiled an assassination attempt
on Prince William II of Orange by barking
and awakening the prince at the right
time. The tail of the Kookierhondje was
said to be used to lure wild ducks. Kooikierhondjes
appear in Dutch paintings back to the
1600s.
Description: Kookierhondje resemble
spaniels, they have a light build but
are well proportioned. They have silky
coats with feathering like that found
on a spaniel.
Size: Kookierhondje are medium
sized dogs, they weigh 20 to 24 lbs and
stand 14 to 16 inches tall at their shoulder.

Coat: Kookierhondje have a silky
slightly wavy, waterproof coat similar
to that of a spaniel, with white and red
coloring.
Disposition: Kooikerhondje are
friendly, well-behaved dogs, they are
enthusiastically social. They may be wary
of strangers until the stranger earns
their trust. Kooikerhondjes are highly
adaptable, modifying their behavior to
suit their situation.
