Schnauzer in Foreign Languages:
Origins: The schnauzer was initially bred
in Germany to be a rat catcher, yard dog and guard
dog. Giant Schnauzers were said to be initially
bred to herd cattle.
Description: Schnauzers have are solidly
built regardless of their size, they have a rectangular
frame and a square muzzle with an iconic "mustache",
"beard" and bushy eye brows.
Size: There are three types of schnauzers,
miniature, standard, and giant. Miniature Schnauzers
weigh between 12 and 20 lbs and stand 12 to 14
inches tall at their shoulder. Standard Schnauzers
weigh between 30 to 50 lbs, and stand 17 to 20
inches tall at their shoulder. Giant Schnauzers
weigh between 70 to 100 lbs, they stand 23.5 to
27.5 inches tall at their shoulder.

Coat: The schnauzer has a wiry coat like
that found in terriers, the schnauzers coat colors
include: salt and pepper, black, and black and
silver as acceptable coat colors.
Disposition: Schnauzers are alert, spirited
but they are still obedient. Schnauzers are friendly
and willing to please, but may be aloof with strangers.
Type Dog: Schnauzers are working dogs
(similar to terriers).
Litter Size: Schnauzers give birth to
litters with 3 to 8 puppies.
Behavior: Schnauzers require regular exercise,
they may be prone to chase small pets and cats
due to their ratting history.
Traits: Schnauzers are intelligent, agile,
and reliable.

Life Span: Schnauzers have a typical life
span of 12 to 15 years.
