Origins: Saluki were initially
bred to hunt gazelles. The Saluki is thought
to have descened from the ancient dogs
in Egypt, they breed's name is thought
to come from the city of Saluk, what is
now part of Yemen.
Description: The Saluki has a
thin narrow slender build. Saluki resemble
a greyhound with longer fur on its ears
and tail. They have long pointed muzzle
and long drooping ears.
Size: Salukis weigh between 40
to 60 lbs, and they stand 23 to 28 inches
at their shoulder.

Coat: Saluki have short coats
with longer fur on their tail and ears,
they can be white, cream, fawn, golden,
red, grizzle, black and tan, tricolor
or any color combination with white.
Disposition: Saluki are aloof
and reserved with strangers, they are
dedicated to their families, but not overly
demonstrative of their feelings. Saluki
are gentle with children but may not be
playful enough to entertain them.

Litter Size: Saluki typically
give birth to litters of 5 to 7 puppies.
Behavior: Saluki are incredibly
fast, they are able to out pace many small
animals including gazelles, for which
they were bred to hunt. Daily exercise
is essential they really should be able
to run openly each day.
Traits: Active, friendly, and
swift.
