Origins: Border Collies were initially
bred in the 1700s to herd sheep.
Description: Border Collies are
medium sized dogs with a pointed, prominent
nose, intelligent, inquisitive face and
either erect or drooping ears. Border
Collies can have varying eye colors.
Size: Border Collies weigh beteween
27 to 45 lbs, they stand 18 to 22 inches
tall at their shoulder.

Coat: Border Collies have thick
double coats that can be either "smooth"
or "rough". The Border Collie's
coat canbe either solid colored (typically
black and white, or brown and white),
bicolored, tricolored, merle, or sable.
Border Collies will have feathering along
legs and a thick mane of fur around its
throat.
Disposition: Border Collies are
pleasant dogs, but demanding pets. They
require significant mental stimulation,
as well as physical exercise. Border Collies
demand a "job" and varying activities.
They may challenge authority as a pup,
but are highly intelligent and trainable
if the work is challenging.

Litter Size: Border Collies give
birth to litters of 4 to 8 puppies, with
an average litter of 6 pups.
Behavior: Border Collies are incredibly
intelligent and and easy to train. Border
Collies require considerable daily physical
exercise and mental stimulation. If they
become bored, Border Collies can develop
neurotic and destructive behaviors. Border
Collies will often instinctively "herd"
small children and other pets.
