The Chow Chow originated in China in
the 100s. The Chow Chow was originally
bred to be a guard dog.
The Chow Chow has a deep broad chest,
small round feet, small ears and a high
set tail.The Chow Chow is covered with
thick fur. The Chow Chow weighs from 45-70
lbs and is 18-22 inches tall.
Chow Chow are not overly affectionate
even with their family, they can be suspicious
of strangers. Chow Chow’s are independent
and stubborn, they can be aggressive with
other dogs but are generally good with
other household pets.
Chow Chow’s are often said to look like
baby bears with a bushy double- fur coat.
Their coat requires maintenance every
other day. The undercoat is woolly which
gives them a fluffy appearance. The Chow
Chow is bred in solid colors and can be
tan, red, silver-gray, black or occasional
white. The Chow Chow has a curly tail,
that curls over their back. The Chow Chow
has a blue-black tongue combination.
They require regular but not strenuous
exercise. They tolerate cold weather well,
but have a low tolerance for the heat.
The Chow Chow’s life span is typically
8-12 years.
