It is evident that man's best friend has earned their
title, and continues to live up to it; dogs are present
in all kinds of media across many cultures. Dogs have
not only served powerful and touching roles in television,
books, and movies, but have filled funny and engaging
roles in an array of comic strips for most of the time
that the medium has formally existed. To document this
presence, we have compiled a list of several famous
dogs in comics.
64, a dachshund, is accomplice and companion to the
villainous Beagle Boys in Walt Disney's Comics and
Stories.
Ace the Bat-Hound, a black and straw German shepherd,
belongs to the Batman mythos of DC comics.
Barfy, a Labrador retriever, is a family pet in The
Family Circus.
Barnabas is a companion to Destruction and, later,
Delirium in The Sandman.
Black Bob, "the Dandy Wonder Dog," is a border collie
from the from the British The Dandy comic.

name for Obelix's canine companion in the English translations

Earl, a Jack Russell terrier, is a major character
and neighbor to Mooch in the comic strip Mutts.
Fred Basset, a basset hound, stars in the British

Grimm, also called Grimmy, is Mother Goose's pet dog
