The Pekingese originated in China in
the first century. Pekingese are also
known as the Peking Palasthund. The Pekingese
was initially bred as a small companion
dog. The Pekingese has short legs, a compact
flattened face, with long hair. Because
of the shape of the Pekingese’s face they
also have a tendency to snore.
The Pekingese does not tolerate the heat
well. The Pekingese is a brave and even
though tiny in stature it will not back
down in the face of aggression. Pekingese
are aloof with strangers but tend to get
along well with other family pets. It
has been known to be aggressive with children
if they are rough.
The Pekingese has a double coat, with
a thick undercoat and a long course over-coat.
The Pekingese requires regular brushing.
The pekingese weighs 7-12lbs and is 6-9
inches tall.
The life span of the Pekingese is 13-15
years.
