The Pomeranian dog breed originated in
Germany in the 1800s.
The Pomeranian is a member of the German
Spitz dog group. The Pomeranian is a small
dog, in fact its the smallest of all spitz
dogs. The Pomeranian is a miniature spitz
and has the stocky body pricked ears,
ruff of fur and curled tail that is typical
of this dog group. Pomeranians have a
short neck, almond eyes, small high-set
erect ears. Pomeranians have small square
well-proportioned bodies. The Pomeranian
is characterized by its diminutive size,
fox like ears and its tail that tips forward.
The Pomeranian weighs 4-5 1/2 lbs and
is 8-11 inches tall.
The Pomeranian was initially bred as
a companion dog. The Pomeranian is bold,
bouncy, busy, curious, playful, self-confident
and attentive. Though the Pomeranian is
tiny, it still requires daily exercise.
Pomeranians have a double coat, the Pomeranian
has the appearance of a “puff ball”. Pomeranians
have double coats that are white, red,
orange gray and black. The Pomeranian’s
coat requires brushing twice per week,
more frequent brushing is required when
the Pomeranian is shedding.
Be warned Pomeranians have the tendency
to bark a lot.
Pomeranians have a life span of 12-16
years.
