The Rhodesian Ridgeback dog breed originated
in South Africa in the 1800s. The Rhodesian
Ridgeback is also referred as the African
Lion Hound. The Rhodesian Ridgeback was
initially bred to hunt lions.
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are slightly longer
than tall, they are athletically built.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback weighs 65-85 lbs
and is 24-27 inches tall.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a ridge of
hair that grows in the opposite direction
as the rest of the fur down their backs.
Their coat is short and glossy. The Rhodesian
Ridgeback’s coat requires very little
minimal care.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is the most protective
of the hounds. Rhodesian’s are good with
children, but they are protective of family
members. They are strong willed and powerful.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback loves to run and
it requires both mental and physical stimulation
to keep it from getting bored.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback’s life span is
typically 10-12 years.
