Samoyed Dog Traits
The Samoyed originated in Russia in the
1600s. The Samoyed is also known as the
Samoyedskaja. The Samoyed was named for
the Samoyed people. The Samoyed dogs initiallyl
lived as part of the families in hide
tents and one of their jobs was to keep
the children warm in bed.
The first Samoyed’s came to England in
the late 1800s. The Samoyed was originally
developed to herd reindeer.
The Samoyed broad very muscular body,
deep chest, solid well muscled legs, and
a bear like face. The Samoyed weighs 50-65
lbs and 18-22 inches tall. The Samoyed
has a weather-resistant coat that consists
of two layers and stands away from the
body. The Samoyed’s thick coat needs brushing
two to three times per week, and requires
daily grooming when its shedding.
Samoyeds are gentle and playful, they
are good companion dogs, and form close
bonds with families. Samoyed are amiable
with strangers and usually with other
dogs as well. Samoyed dogs are clever
and occasionally mischievous, they require
daily physical activity and mental exercises.
If they become bored they have a tendency
to act out by digging and barking.
