in Ireland in the 1700s. The Irish Setter
is also called the Red Setter. The Irish
Setter was originally bred to retrieve
game.
The Irish Setter are medium sized dog
with a slender build. The Irish Setter
weighs 60-70 lbs and is 25-27 inches tall.
The Irish Setter is long and lean with
a long rich chestnut red coat with silky
fur feathering.
Irish Setters are tireless hunters, they
approach life with a great attitude and
they are pleasant companions. Without
regular exercise they can be overly rambunctious.
Irish Setters are eager to please and
they are good with children.
Irish Setters are very social creatures
and they require human interaction in
order to be truly happy. The Irish Setter
has a gentle nature, but is also high-strung
and can be headstrong. Their coat needs
regular brushing every 2-3 days.
The Irish Setter’s life span is typically
12-14 years.
