Bulldog Characteristics
Bulldogs originated in Great Britain
in the 1800s. Bulldogs are also referred
to as English Bulldogs. They were initially
bred to bait bulls .
Bulldogs have a muscular build that is
low set, on a powerful but very compact
body. Bulldogs are heavy and thick set,
with a large head and a short broad nose.
Bulldogs typically weigh 50-55lbs and
are 12-14 inches tall. Male bulldogs are
larger than their female counterparts.
Bulldogs are comical and amicable. They
are mellow and docile, and generally very
easy to please. Though some bulldogs do
have a stubborn streak. Bulldogs are good
with children, and moderately friendly
toward strangers and other pets.
Bulldogs have a fine glossy coat. Predominate
colors of bulldogs coat is fawn and brindle.
Bulldogs require minimal coat care, with
only occasional grooming to remove dead
hair. Bulldogs need to have their wrinkles
cleaned to prevent sores from forming.
Many bulldogs wheeze, snore and drool.
Most bulldogs are unable to swim and
do not do well with humid weather. Bulldogs
do not require much exercise and will
often shuffle their paws.
Bulldogs have a life span of 8-12 years.
