English Bulldogs
English bulldogs are very family friendly and generally
get along with other dogs as well. Of course, like in
all breeds, individuals differ greatly, but not all
English Bulldogs are those lazy couch potatoes, uncapable
of any type of exercise, with congenital. In general,
English Bulldogs are actually highly intelligent dogs
who want to play, cuddle, or have their fat little tummies
rubbed, rather than learn some obedience trick.
Puppies
Puppies often delivered by caesariansection because
of their broad heads. As puppies you can expect your
English bulldog to be as playful as any other breed,
they will run, bite and play as much as any other puppy
would. English bulldogs never really grow up: they are
perpetual puppies. This chewing habit, which is normal
in puppies, is much more pronounced in bulldogs than
in other breeds. Bulldog puppies have potential to be
very laid back, but they will become what you teach
them to be -- just like a baby will turn out the way
you raise them. English Bulldog puppies are a joy to
have and even when they puppies grow into grown dogs,
and snore and pass gas, they are still a joy.
Health
Health ProblemsCommon Breathing problems; can include
elongated soft pallet, some have small or defective
windpipes/tracheas. Exposure to extended amount of time
in the heat can be hazards for it's health. The Bulldog
is not a demanding breed by nature, but Bulldogs do
require a family to have a strong knowledge of the English
Bulldog breed and its healthcare requirements. In order
for dogs to live happy, productive, and long lives their
owners need to be aware of the everyday health requirements
as well as be on the look out for any sudden physical
changes. They are very sensitive health wise, cannot
be subjected to heat, left outside or walked for much
more than around the block on a flat surface and must
be walked on a harness. Cherry eye is a largely cosmetic
problem with very little real health risk. However,
do not let this deter you from becoming an owner, many
English Bulldogs go through life with no health concerns
at all.
Breeder
One way to avoid these problems is to buy your puppy
from a reputable and ethical breeder with a scrupulous
breeding policy. When visiting with different breeders
be aware that the breeders that are doing the "right"
thing are not as concerned about the money as they are
about you being the right home. Your puppy's breeder
will begin this socialization process for you and then
it's up to you to keep it going when your puppy arrives
home. Maybe think, about what that breeder has gone
through during that litter or the one before or the
one to come, They are attached to those babies from
first sight and they go through alot of emotions and
physical strain from lack of sleep, worrying, and taking
care of that litter and the mom. If a breeder is serious
about improving the breed and not his wallet this is
the kind of breeder you want.
Care
Care must be taken to be sure that your Bulldogs are
fed proper nutrition to meet their developmental needs
at the various stages of their lives. Bulldogs can be
such a joy to raise and be around, but bulldogs must
be watched and cared for like you would your child,
especially when they are still puppies. Grooming Required:
Generally low, but requires ear, wrinkle, and dental
care. English Bulldogs seem to know that the sad, pouted
face and the carefully-placed sigh can get them most
anything. The folds and wrinkles of the face should
receive daily care. It is strongly recommended that
you locate a veterinarian with plenty of Bulldog experience
so that your dog is assured the best care for his unique
anatomy. Take special care to powder their folds and
wrinkles and under their tails during hot weather. They
should be watched carefully for signs of skin irritation
and scratching or signs of any skin infections or rashes
such as mange. An English Bulldog is a wonderful pet
and will bring you many years of happiness if well cared
for.
Size
The Bulldog is a medium-sized breed and belongs to
the Non-Sporting group of dog breeds. Size--The size
for mature dogs is about 50 pounds; for mature bitches
about 40 pounds. According to the American Kennel Club
the perfect English Bulldog must be of medium size and
smooth coat; with heavy, thick-set, low-swung body,
massive short-faced head, wide shoulders and sturdy
limbs. Feet-- The feet should be moderate in size, compact
and firmly set. Although compact in size, Bulldogs are
powerful and sturdy. Actually, the proportions of the
body are more important than their size and weight.
Face
English bulldogs are best know for their short stocky
bodies and wrinkly almost saggy skin on their face.
Because of the short face, they snort, snuffle, wheeze,
grunt, and snore loudly. These dogs are said to have
a clownish appearance, which is probably due to their
short wrinkly face and a short, well-rounded body. The
typical head of the Bulldog is massive and short-faced.
Bulldogs are very loyal , great companions, easy to
take care of, except for a few issues(no more than other
dogs), and have the cutest faces ever.
Tail
When cleaning the tail area or tail pocket make sure
to use a soft cloth and get in there real good to clean
it, you should get out lots of hairs and keep this area
clean and powdered as well. The tail should be set rather
low. The tail may be pump handle or crooked.
Coat
The coat comes in red, fawn, brindle, paleyellow or
washed-out red, or white, and can combine any of these
colors. The coat is short, close and medium fine. Grooming
The smooth, fine, short-haired coat is easy to groom.
Due to their smooth short haired coat, English Bulldogs
do not require extensive grooming.
Temperament
Luckily, they have a temperament for indoor living.
They are really good with kids and are of a calm temperament.
Temperament: Although the English Bulldogs appearance
can be somewhat intimidating, it is among the gentlest
of dogs.
Companion
The English bulldog is an exceptional family pet and
will lead to a life long companion. A few general thoughts
about the English Bulldog:English Bulldogs are a breed
that craves human attention and companionship. The English
bulldog is a docile, affectionate companion and yet
will be playful and active (for short periods) if you
want him to be. Their special talent in life is “COMPANIONSHIP”.
English Bulldogs are so loving, they would make a wonderful
companion to anyone who is looking for unconditional
love. They adore children and make an excellent companion
to them because of their gentle, yet sometimes stubborn
nature. He is a laid-back, good-natured and is an undemanding
companion who would make a great pet for the elderly.
