The Bearded Collie dog breed originated
in Great Britain in the 1500s. The Bearded
Collie was initially bred to herd sheep.
The Bearded Collie is also called the
Beardie.
The Bearded Collie resembles the Old
English Sheepdog in appearance ,but the
Bearded Collie is much lighter and more
slender in shape than a sheepdog. Bearded
Collies have a medium build they are long
and lean and rectangular shape. The Bearded
Collie weighs 40-60 lbs and is 20-22 inches
tall.
Bearded Collies are agile and a custom
to quick sharp turns which make them skilled
sheep herders. Bearded Collies are playful
and enthusiastic with a high level of
energy. Bearded Collies are smart and
obedient, they can be silly. Bearded Collies
like children but may be overly rambunctious,
they may also try to “herd” children when
playing. Bearded Collies require a fair
amount of exercise on a daily basis.
Bearded Collies have a long double coat
that requires daily brushing.
Bearded Collie’s typical life span is
12-14 years.
