The Border Collie dog breed originated
in Great Britain in the 1700s. The Border
Collie was initially bred to herd sheep.
Border Collies have a medium slender
build. The Border Collie weighs 30-44
lbs and is 18-23 inches tall. Male Border
Collies are taller than their female counterparts.
The Border Collie is noted by its unique
black and white coloration's, though other
varieties do exist.
Border Collie have a very high energy
level. They are highly intelligent and
very obedient. Border Collies require
a challenging job and exercise every day,
or it will be very mischievous, destructive
and problematic if they are not sufficiently
stimulated.
Border Collies are herders at heart and
have the tendency to chase other animals.
They are incredibly agile and a high endurance
level. Border Collies are happiest when
they have a “job”. Border Collies may
be reserved with strangers.
Border Collies can have either a smooth
or rough coat, with feathering a long
their legs, stomach and they have a thick
mane of fur around their chest area. The
Border Collie requires grooming twice
a week.
Border Collies typically live 10-14 years.
