Traits
The Great Pyrenees originated
in France in 2000 BC. The Great Pyrenees
is also known as the Pyrenean Mountain
Dog and the Chien des Pyrenees. The Great
Pyrenees is sometimes confused with the
Pyrenean Mastiff, but its actually a different
breed. The Great Pyrenees was initially
bred to guard sheep. The Great Pyrenees
has a reputation for guarding livestock.
The Great Pyrenees has a
broad chest thick mane of fur, powerful
thighs. The Great Pyrenees has a thick
double coat, with an under-coat woolly
undercoat and a long flat coarse outer
coat that keeps it warm in the colder
climates.
The Great Pyrenees weighs
90-125 lbs and is 26-32 inches tall. The
Great Pyrenees takes 3-4 years to reach
their full maturity. The Great Pyrenees
is usually white with black eye rims,
but it�s marking can also be badger, wolf
gray or pale yellow on a white coat. The
Great Pyrenees thick white coat requires
regular brushing, and daily brushing when
shedding. The breed has the tendency to
drool.
The Great Pyrenees is devoted
to its family, and is wary of strangers.
The Great Pyrenees is calm and well mannered.
It is independent and can be stubborn.
Great Pyrenees tend to be barkers.
The Great Pyrenees requires
moderate daily exercise.
Great Pyrenees have a typical
life span of 10-12 years.
