The Basset Hound dog breed
originated in Great Britain in the 1800s.
The Basset Hound is named for the French
word “bas” which means low, due to the
Basset Hound low stature.The Basset Hound
was initially bred to hunting rabbits
and hares.
The Basset Hound is heavy-bones,
and stocky with short legs, and long low-set
ears. The Basset Hound weighs 40-60 lbs
and is 13-15 inches tall.
The Basset Hound is good
natured and easygoing, they are calm but
they do need regular exercise to stay
fit. and healthy. The Basset Hound is
prone to obesity which can cause back
problems.
Basset Hounds are talented
and determined trackers, they are not
easily distracted when they are on task.
The Basset Hound requires
minimal grooming, and the breed has a
tendency to drool. Basset Hounds have
the propensity to bay when excited. The
Basset Hounds coat only requires occasional
grooming.
The Basset Hound’s life
span is typically 8-12 years.
